Prototype version 0.2; new weapons
Hello folks and welcome to part two of my new project: Adventures of Zoldan.
For the first update I've added two new weapons to use, a quick access inventory slots UI and one enemy to test the new weapons on..
First I added an inventory system and I spend some time on the look and feel of the look of the inventory slots. I settled on this simple brown/yellow look that match the current level nicely. I added some nice icons for the weapons. The code for selecting a different weapon by pressing a keyboard number I learned in a tutorial but I really like it. In the future I hope to add a system that the player can drag items manually to the quick action slots. This is how the UI looks thus far:
The default weapon is a giant crowbar that is maybe a bit to big for the character but I like the ridiculous look so I probably stick with it. I think I add something that it swings up again after not attacking for a little while because it looks weird when the character walks around holding the crowbar down.
Next up was the laser pistol and I really like how the projectile look with the nice green bloom effect and the particle explosion on impact. The look of the weapon needs work because now it looks to much like a floating pistol instead of the character holding the weapon. The range, damage and cooldown of the weapon firing seems right to me but let me know what you think.
I started this game mainly because I wanted a game where the character get's powerful weapons and abilities to cause destruction to the enemies. Adding a powerful ray gun that has enough punch to shoot through almost everything seems to fit the bill. I came up with this weapon from a tutorial where it's a slowly growing magical staff. By making the ray grow very fast and fade again, it looks like a powerful ray which was the effect I wanted to accomplish. I haven't decided on the look of the weapon yet but i think it looks okay for the moment.
The plan for next update will be another type of enemy and that enemies can damage the player. I also would like a saving system because when the player goes to level 2 and then returns to level 1, everything is reset. It will be complicated but also challenging. :)
